Panthers Unveil New Look

The Florida Panthers finished the 2015-16 season with their best record in franchise history. They set new highs in both wins and points and won the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. Now, they have unveiled a brand new logo and uniform look to further their ongoing evolution.

The new Reebok jerseys will be worn to begin the 2016-17 season. Panthers Chairman, Owner & Governor Vincent Viola said of the new look: “The idea when we came into Florida and took responsibility for the stewardship of the franchise, was to start anew and create traditions that were unique to this new start.”

The logo features a crest inspired by Viola’s service in the US military. A former member of the famed 101st Airborne Division whose valor was on display both at D-Day and The Battle of the Bulge in WWII, Viola said he wanted to pay homage to that unit’s infamous “Screaming Eagle” patch that adorned their uniforms. Viola added, “It’s the idea that we will not relent, we will dedicate ourselves to each other, and we will never surrender.”

While the new uniforms keep the same Panthers colors, the new panther itself has gone from a ferocious, attacking beast to a more stoic, mature big cat. The Florida state flag will adorn each jersey’s shoulder.

Though the look is completely brand new and modern, Panthers Vice Chairman, Partner & Alternate Governor Doug Cifu said, “We looked at some of the old jerseys of the Rangers and the Canadiens and the original six teams. We wanted to have the traditions of the original NHL blended with our new logo and patch.” Thus, the new uniforms feature straightforward horizontal striping, reminiscent of early NHL uniforms.
